Research Divisions

Astrophysics and Atmospheric Physics

Astrophysics and Atmospheric Physics

The division conduct research in stars, galaxies, planets, exoplanets, the Solar System and the Universe as a whole, as well as the interaction between space and the Earth's atmosphere. Technology and instruments are built to observe these phenomena. Technical research in X-ray optics, X-ray detectors, and mechanical structures for space exploration is also a focus area. Geodesy and Earth Observation

Geodesy and Earth Observation

The division research in observation, surveying and mapping of the Earth concerning, among other things, climate change. Other focus areas are measuring and observing the Earth's gravitational field, displacements in the Earth's crust, ice cover changes, soil and sea surface levels and land uplift. We work with the Arctic and Antarctic, and in other regions. Geomagnetism and Geospace

Geomagnetism and Geospace

The division uses satellites and ground-based measuring stations to explore and map the Earth's magnetic field. The research provides insight into changes in the magnetic field and processes coupled to the sun. Models of the Earth's magnetic field developed in the division are used to correct satellite-based GNSS signals for navigation on land and at sea. (Illustration: DTU Space)
Microwaves and Remote Sensing

Microwaves and Remote Sensing

The division deals with research, development and use of microwave sensors. We research both passive and active sensors - which are microwaves, radiometers and radars - that are used to observe the earth's surface. The systems are used for monitoring vegetation, land and sea ice, and measuring temperatures in the world's oceans from space or via aircraft. (Image: ESA)

Measurement and Instrumentation Systems

Measurement and Instrumentation Systems

Research and development activities in the division focus on high-precision instrumentation systems for space missions and on research based on data gathered via these instruments. The division design camera based navigation systems for space missions and instruments for measuring the Earth's and other planets' magnetic fields from uncrewed space crafts. (Photo: DTU Space)

DTU Space Centres

DTU Space Centres

The specific research centres are anchored at DTU Space. They run projects and provide advice to authorities and organisations nationally and internationally based on many years of knowledge at DTU Space. The centres are ESA BIC Denmark, Security DTU, Arctic DTU and DTU Space Drone Centre. Read more about the centres here. (Photo: Danish Defence)
